Smart City innovative technology based solutions for urban development tailored to improve liveability, productivity and sustainability for out cities, suburbs and towns is now gaining momentum. Whilst the preparedness to embrace the Smart Cities innovation has been steady it has significantly gained traction in the second quarter of 2017 with Australian Government and Prime Minister’s office initiating a funding programme for “Smart Cities and Suburbs”. ETC has been leading the way on Smart Cities since early 2016 when they designed the first shared fibre optic Smart City LAN for Scarborough Foreshore Redevelopment for MRA. The Stage 1 33ha beach front precinct site wide fibre network designed for Scarborough is due for completion in January 2018 and will initially support:
- CCTV security monitoring
- Lighting control and management
- Free public WiFi and location based analytics reporting
- Energy metering, management billing system
- Irrigation control
The fibre network consists of multiple nodes throughout the development with fibre or Cat 6 cabling to most light poles and provision to expand future Smart City technologies such as digital signage, parking and waste management, tourism and events, VOIP, smart sensors, AV services and more. The Scarborough master plan includes a future three precincts totaling approximately 60ha. ETC has since designed similar Smart City technology for Rockingham Beach Foreshore Precinct and Koombana Bay Bunbury due for completion 2018.
